Chakaia Booker: Weighted Balance @ The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Through June 1 – Chakaia Booker: Weighted Balance presents works by American artist Chakaia Booker (born 1953), who for more than four decades has transformed discarded industrial materials into striking abstractions.


Mint to Be: The Feminine Body as Costume Art @ The Mint Museum Uptown, Through June 2 — Inspired by the Met Gala’s 2026 celebration of Costume Art, this exhibition features curated works across multiple mediums, paired with one to two fashion mannequins to bring each artistic interpretation to life.


David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale @ The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Through August 23 –Spanning three decades, David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale brings together over 100 paintings and drawings that trace the artist’s career from the 1990s to the present—from rarely exhibited early work to selections from his most recent series.


Designing Dynamism: Kuba Textiles from the DR Congo, The Wesley Mancini Collection @ The Mint Museum Randolph, Through August 23 — Designing Dynamism highlights the intricate and bold designs of Kuba prestige textiles, showcasing their enduring influence from traditional ceremonial use to textiles made for the global market.


Kirk Fanelly: What do we have here? @ The Mint Museum Uptown, Through August 23 — Charlotte-based artist Kirk Fanelly offers 21st century surrealism: recognizable settings where something is awry. This Constellation CLT installation spans 25 years of Fanelly’s work and includes prints, inlaid cut paper, paintings, and three[1]dimensional constructions. 


Beyond Boundaries: Black Abstraction in the Elliot and Kimberly Perry Art Collection @ The Harvey B. Gantt Center, Through August, 26 – Through richly tactile surfaces, layered pigments, and expansive compositional strategies, the artists in Beyond Boundaries mobilize abstraction as a mode of storytelling—one that resists fixed interpretation while remaining deeply rooted in cultural knowledge.


Caravaggio | Revolution: Baroque Masterpieces from the Roberto Longhi Foundation @ The Mint Museum Uptown, Through October 25 — Featuring one original masterpiece by Caravaggio and more than 40 works by Baroque masters, this exhibition shines a light on how Caravaggio’s radical realism transformed not only painting, but the very language of modern film, photography, and popular culture.
